Description & Services
Gillis Mountain Trail Rides offers Horseback Riding Tours in Nova Scotia
Gillis Mountain Valley Farm is a sixth generation Scottish family operation. In the past the Gillis' spoke Gaelic as their first language, raised their own livestock, milked their own cows, made homemade Cape Breton cheese, curds and butter and used their draft horses for clearing land, plowing fields, making hay, and taking their produce to the town of Inverness where it was sold to coal miners and their families.
Located at the foot of the Cape Breton Highlands (a part of the Appalachian mountain range) in Broad Cove Inverness, Gillis Mountain overlooks the world renowned golf course, Cabot Links and Cabot Cliffs. The view from the top of the mountain is spectacular; offering a 30 km radius of panoramic scenery of the Gulf of Saint Lawrence, Cape Breton Highlands, town of Inverness and Cape Mabou Highlands. Indeed, the beauty of the mountain is such that a song was written by the Rankin Family called "Gillis Mountain".
Today, the farm raises purebred Heritage Cotswold sheep, keeps a family jersey cow and of course offers horseback riding tours to the public.
